Reflections on 2025: Navigating the New Frontier of ESG Data

As the holiday season approaches and we prepare to welcome 2026, all of us at Hermesnet LTD want to extend our warmest wishes to our clients, partners, and stakeholders. This time of year is about more than just celebration; it is a moment to pause and reflect on a year that has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of sustainability.

For the ESG sector, 2025 has been a year of "regulatory shockwaves." From the introduction of the EU’s Omnibus Simplification Package to the evolving dynamics of the U.S. market, the global playing field has fractured. We have moved past the era of "wait and see." Today, transparency is no longer a choice—it is a baseline for survival in a global economy.

A Year of Meaningful Milestones

Throughout the year, our blog has served as a compass for these changes. We began 2025 by analyzing the SEC vs. EU divide, helping multinational companies navigate the divergence between tightening European disclosure rules and shifting American policies. We saw firsthand that while regulations may vary, the demand from investors for "audit-ready," standardized climate accounting remains universal.

One of our proudest focus areas this year was Scope 3 Emissions Reporting. As we highlighted in July, value chain emissions often account for 70% to 90% of a company’s total footprint. Moving these from "unreported" to "actionable" has been a core mission for Hermesnet. Through our platform updates, we’ve empowered firms to move beyond guesswork, utilizing AI-powered analytics to turn raw data into strategic decarbonization roadmaps.

Innovation at the Heart of Sustainability

In 2025, we also tackled the "Hidden Costs of Publicly Available ESG Data." We advocated for a shift away from outdated annual reports toward real-time, direct data collection. By addressing the lack of standardization and the risks of greenwashing, we’ve helped our users build trust with their own stakeholders.

From decoding the complexities of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to providing a practical handbook on Carbon Neutral vs. Net Zero, our goal has remained constant: to simplify the complex and make sustainability data a tool for growth, not just a compliance burden.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we look toward the New Year, the momentum is only increasing. The "ESG Rollercoaster" will continue, but with the right data and a commitment to transparency, it is a ride that leads to a more resilient, efficient, and profitable future.

To our community: thank you for trusting us to be your partner in this journey. Whether you are a private equity firm uncovering "buried opportunities" in your portfolio or a business striving for 100% data clarity, your progress is our success.
Wishing you a peaceful Christmas, a joyful holiday season, and a prosperous, sustainable 2026.

Happy New 2026 Year!
